FW De Klerk Loses Credibility Due to Third Force Cover-up
F.W. de Klerk was handed a report almost 18 months before the historic April 1994 election that spelled out the apartheid military's role in the so-called "Third Force", a shadowy alliance of state agents and members of the Inkatha Freedom Party responsible for widespread acts of random terror. The South African government confirmed the story it dismissed for years as a newspaper fantasy, left-wing propaganda and the ravings of renegades and criminals. Although President F W de Klerk still will not use the words 'third force', he admitted that such a force existed.
