Sex pest Mashabane found guilty by Pretoria High Court
Norman Mashabane had a reputation of a sex pest. When he was ambassador to Indonesia he was called backed after being accused of sexual harassment. Mashabane was found guilty on 22 charges at an initial hearing into the matter in 2001, but he appealed and was allowed to continue in his post, pending the outcome. In June 2003, another charge was laid against him and he was again found guilty. In 2004, Dlamini-Zuma, who was Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time cleared him of any wrongdoing and upheld his appeal. The victim Lara Swart then went to court to appeal against Dlamini-Zuma's decision and was vindicated when the Pretoria High Court in December 2006 ruled in favour of a foreign affairs employee.
