091015mg - How South African Jews ‘protected’ their youth from the Shministim

Description & Background

Jews in Cape Town expressed deep concern Tuesday that a visit to their city by three representatives of the Shministim, conscientious objectors to IDF service, could fuel anti-Israel sentiment and even anti-Semitism.

Three members of the 'Shministim' (Shministim is a Hebrew word meaning twelfth graders - but is much more than that - it is those youth who refuse to serve in the Israeli Defence Force (IDF)) were refused a chance to speak at Cape Towns largest jewish school Herzlia.
